Over time the Windows system directory can become cluttered-up
with unused DLL's (program libraries) which waste disk space and
slow the system down. The more files there are in your system
directory the longer the system takes to locate a file there.

This program scans your system looking for all references to DLL
files in your Windows system directory. Those DLL files in the
system directory that have no programs calling on them can be
moved out of the system directory, saving disk space and
        improving system performance.

For use with Windows 3.1, Windows 95, and Windows98. It
won't achieve anything if used with Windows NT.

        v1.6:

        - Removable drives can now be scanned.

        v1.5:

        - Improved DLL detection algorithm.

        - Hard drives A: and B: are now detected if present.
          (especially for Japanese users)

        New features with v1.4

        - Increased scan speed.

        - Improved DLL file information detection and display.

        - Increased drive selection options.

        - Added a feature to move some or all DLL files back into
the system directory after having moved them.
          (safety precaution)

        - Added support for network drives.

        New features with v1.3:

        - Ability to manually select which unused files to move and
          which to leave.

        - Ability to exclude drives from the scan, for those with
different operating systems on different drives or
          partitions.

        **************************************************************

If you are happy with the speed of your system, and you have
ample disk space, then you will probably not want to use this
program. "If it ain't broke, don't fix it!"

        **************************************************************

THIS PROGRAM DOES NOT CLAIM TO DO A PERFECT JOB. Some references
to DLLs can be hidden and will go undetected by this program.
However, I have tested this program on a number of machines
using both Windows 3.1 and Windows 95 without any problems.

If you run programs from CD-Rom, Zip drive, or floppy disk, then
this program will not be able to detect DLL usage from those
particular programs, as it only scans the programs on your hard
        disks.

IT IS VERY IMPORTANT THAT YOU KEEP BACKUPS of any files moved
out of the system directory, as you may need to copy some of
them back into the Windows/system directory if any of your
programs complains about a missing DLL, or otherwise doesn't
        function properly.

In addition, if you change your system setup or install new
components then it is possible that you will need to copy some
of the moved DLL's back into the Windows system directory.

This program does NOT delete any files, but moves DLLs out of
the Windows system directory and into a SYSTEM/BKUPDLLS
directory (only upon your confirmation). System performance
should increase because there are fewer files in the system
directory. As yet there is no saving in disk space, but please
        read on.

After extensive use of your computer without any problems you
can make backup copies of all the files in the BKUPDLLS
directory to floppy disk (or tape, etc), for safekeeping, and
then delete them from your hard disk. However, I would
recommend that you do NOT delete them from your hard disk unless
        absolutely necessary.

After you have moved DLL files out of the system directory you
can move some or all of the files back again if you need to by
clicking on the "Move files back" button.

Warning: DO NOT delete any .DLL files unless you have backups!

                             - TROUBLESHOOTING -

        1. Make sure that you scan all the drives (at once) that contain
the software that you use. Don't scan, say, Drive C: with one
use of the program, and Drive D: another time (unless you are
using different operating systems each time, and have the
software for each operating system on different drives).

        2. If you have trouble running an application after using this
program then you will have to move at least some of the DLLs
        back into the system directory.

Either: 1. Move all files back (using the button), or
                2. Try to determine which DLLs are needed, and only move
those back. Sometimes the DLLs used by a program have
the same creation date - so this can give you a clue.

        3. If you try to "move files back" into the system directory and
are unable to, try copying them back into the system directory
with a program like Windows Explorer.
